JOHN KERRY AND THE "SWIFT BOAT" CAMPAIGN

POSTED RESONSE TO A COLUMN IN THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

To my mind this "swift boat" campaign was never the central issue over John Kerry.

The real ethical issue was his known behavior.

The ambitious rich boy went for a quickie stint in Vietnam to earn some political bona fides.

During his four-month stint, his wonderful work was running his boat up and down rivers, intimidating peasant farmers, shooting heavy machine guns across their fields.

By all accounts he was eager in the deadly work.

In one case, he chased down a man and shot him in the back. That act is undisputed, even by Kerry.

A medal for shooting a man in the back? You get the country you deserve.

Well, of course, far worse was done in the hellish savagery of Vietnam.

It was a time of utter madness. It was a holocaust in every sense.

America slaughtered 3 million people - many of them in truly horrible fashion - just for embracing the wrong economic model.

I always think the black wall in Washington is a fitting memorial. National shame is the appropriate emotion.
