JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: CANADA'S BOY-WONDER PRIME MINISTER JUSTIN TRUDEAU BACK IN ACTION - FLYING FROM PERU AND BACK ON A BIZARRE CONTINENTAL ODYSSEY TO SAY A FEW WORDS BACK HOME

John Chuckman

COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE IN CBC NEWS

“Trudeau to interrupt foreign trip to meet with Notley, Horgan on pipeline impasse
“PM will return to Ottawa from Peru on Sunday to meet with premiers of Alberta, B.C.”

Of course, it's a no-win situation politically for Trudeau.

But that is what national leadership is about.

We have a national leader to make decisions for the good of the country as a whole.

The basic situation here is clear.

We have a vast and valuable resource. There is a vast market for it in the Pacific. Putting them together is unquestionably in the national interest. It’s how Canada earns its way in the world.

It goes without saying that the pipeline should be constructed to be as safe and secure as possible, but built it should be.

Nimbyism by an entire province is the opposite of the national interest. Pipelines are like roads and railroad tracks and communications infrastructure – they are essential. Chaotic conduct undertaken in the name of greenness and some indefinable notions of precious unchangeable earth is religion, not rational government.

By the way, is he wearing his serape on this continental odyssey?
