SHOOTING IN A TORONTO SCHOOL - THE ROOT CAUSE

POSTED RESPONSE TO A COLUMN IN TORONTO'S GLOBE AND MAIL

The root cause is some deadly psychopaths we need taken away.

Who in God's name can imagine taking a loaded pistol to school, much less using it?

Fights and bullying we've had with us always. But sickos with guns are new.

I'd almost bet some of the school's teachers and administrators know either who this is or at least a small list of candidates.

No one takes any responsibility for anything anymore.

That's why all the lunatic nonsense about bullying, including ads with an 800-number to a call center in India.

Almost no one steps up and does anything, such as adequately supervising the halls. They hide behind 'programs.'

Look at the absurd reaction of school administrators here, calling in Grief Counselors!

Terror and fear are the kinds of reactions most students would be feeling, not grief.

Then we have blubbering about values. Anyone carrying a loaded gun in a public school is far, far beyond talk about values.

The value we need is authorities taking responsibility.

Racism has absolutely nothing to do with events of this nature.

To say so is actually a rather cowardly statement.

Genuinely offensive actually.

I've lived in three countries and many cities, and when it comes to racism, Toronto is as good as it gets.

Anyone who can't make it in Toronto, likely can't make it anywhere, regardless of race.

We are talking about disturbed, unbalanced young people who don't belong in a regular public school.

Teachers and others are not equipped to deal with them.

They wreck the peaceful environment needed for learning in exactly the same way that drunken British soccer yobs wreck the environment of a sport.

We need special institutions for such kids, staffed with people who can handle them. And teachers in our regular schools need to have the authority to designate students for removal to them.
