“Trump touts economy, strong employment in state of the union”

America’s State of the Union speech was never so strange. In tone, it resembled an episode of Rod Serling’s old television series, “The Twilight Zone.”

Contrary to Trump’s emphasis, America's economy is anything but strong. It is just heavily pumped up by the Fed at Trump’s insistence. There are many signs of serious weakness. And deficit spending continues at a record pace.

Indeed, the world economy shows many weaknesses, only compounded by Trump's many attacks on trade and his heavy use of illegal American sanctions and tariffs.

One of the world’s major economic blocs and sources of stability, the EU, has just fractured, and the total damage remains to be seen as they work out the details

Rush Limbaugh? A high medal to a guy who has spent decades throwing spitballs at people he doesn't like?

Of course, it is the same medal previously awarded to Madeleine Albright, infamous for her words about thousands of kids killed by American policy in Iraq, and to Joe Biden, who promoted America’s hi-tech extrajudicial killing program and served as Obama’s overseer in the Ukraine coup, and to Miriam Adelson, wife of a multi-billionaire donor to Republicans who faithfully support Israel’s excesses.

A failed coup conspirator, Juan Guaido of Venezuela, was introduced like a hero and waved to the crowd.

Trump refused to shake hands with the Speaker of the House.

I am not a huge fan of Speaker Pelosi's, but she was at her very best here, tearing up a copy of Trump's speech behind his back.

Wars and conflicts and threats by the United States in half a dozen places, but not deserving attention? American forces illegally occupying parts of a couple of countries? Stealing natural resources? Murdering the national hero of another country?

This was, altogether, a grotesque performance by the world's most powerful country.

I do think we are all in serious trouble. Trump is going to be re-elected.
