TCM [Traditional Chinese Medicine] as a cause of
COVID-19? Viruses don’t talk politics: experts
Local British media reports interpreted Boris Johnson’s
comments as criticism of China’s use of traditional medicine and an implication
that the practice of harvesting pangolin scales is connected to the
coronavirus, even though Johnson never mentioned China or Chinese traditional
medicine (TCM) in his speech.
All viral diseases arise somewhere. They do so spontaneously
with changed environmental conditions from time to time.
No one, as I recall, ever blamed any country for the rise of AIDS/HIV.
No one blamed any country for Hepatitis.
Nor was anyone blamed for Polio.
But for some mysterious reason, the rise of COVID is attributed to China, its first major victim.
And this blame is despite researchers now having found the disease existed in parts of Europe and other places in November, 2019, previous to the outbreak in Wuhan.
Does this blaming reflect prejudice? Does it reflect the spite and envy of those engaged in a new hybrid economic warfare against China?
Remember the source: the most discredited, foul-mouthed leader on the planet, Donald Trump, although his obscene theme has been more moderately echoed by a couple of other leaders seeking his favor.
That is not how we fight a disease or do anything else worthwhile.
