While there is some very over-the-top language in this article, the basic truth is that John McCain was indeed a nasty piece of work.
His boyish smile and family connections (his father and grandfather were American admirals, and he married a wealthy woman) and America's desperate need, out of the total squalor of Vietnam, to manufacture a hero, took him a long way.
By whatever measure you choose, McCain was not a hero, something readily discovered if you look at some facts. He actually was the opposite of a hero in most things, from his driving support for imperial wars and dirty tricks abroad to the ethics of great parts of his personal life.
While it is a fairly common phenomenon, I think his is the perfect contemporary example of a man being praised for what he most certainly was not.
Obama - with his peace prize and mass-killing and his reputation for a liberalism he simply does not possess - of course is another, but he has not died and we are not immersed in all the empty praise and hypocrisy that we are for McCain.
And I’m pretty sure that even the largely soulless Obama was not quite the utterly dark creature that John McCain assuredly was.
Of course, since McCain was a truly dutiful servant of America’s Neocons, people who enjoy great influence in the American power establishment and its current global imperial drives, their considerable resources are being applied to echo and magnify his praises.
I published an article back when he was running for president which discusses his character and some unpleasant aspects of his life. It is all researched material, not just an empty attack.
