Why some Venezuelans fear Maduro is selling them out to China
"Flailing regime is seen as easy pickings for China's 'debt-trap diplomacy'"
I find the tone of that quite objectionable.
Venezuela is failing mainly because CIA has been working away for several years with sledge hammers at its foundations.
All kinds of nasty tricks and manipulation. Washington just hates this government, a freely elected government mind you, but a number of times Washington has destroyed democratic governments - Chile, Guatemala, Iran, and others.
China is extending its relationships in all directions where it is welcome. In Africa, China has been a model foreign investor and it maintains good and respectful relationships with governments there.
And given the situation, why wouldn't Maduro welcome them?
Trump and his band of Neocons have openly spoken of invading Venezuela. What kind of diplomacy is that?
And what kind of diplomacy in general does the United States maintain today? Threatening Iran. Threatening Russia. Bombing half a dozen countries. An organized hi-tech system of extrajudicial killing going on daily. Destroying and destabilizing international trade everywhere.
China is at war with no one. China carries on trade with all willing countries. China is building some of the world's most helpful and promising projects, like the new Silk Road.
