COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE BY MATTHEW NORMAN IN THE
INDEPENDENT
This is an utterly ridiculous column. Since when is it
appropriate to write columns which display just plain ignorance?
"Trump isn’t
Adolf Hitler… Hitler was not a two-bit charlatan with an arrestable-offence
spray tan. He had unshakable beliefs"
Wrong on all counts.
The author obviously has not read the serious biographies of
Hitler. Hitler liked saying he had an unshakeable will (and it was
"will," not "beliefs"), but the facts don't support him.
He changed his views and even direction on a number of
things over time.
It is also a cheap, really cheap, propagandist's trick to
say "Trump isn't Hitler" - it's so clearly a way of associating the
two names without writing slander. It’s just the old, “Is it true you beat your
wife?” question recast.
And I want to know why Trump is a "charlatan"?
He isn't, not a bit. He's the real thing, as they say. In
fact, his emerging into mainline politics is a remarkable phenomenon. And that
fact, undoubtedly, is what is truly annoying this author.
Trump is loud and vulgar at times, but that's how America
itself is. And only a person as pushy as he is can get anything done in that
great swamp called Washington.
I think readers can gain some insight on the topic here:

And by the way, the same was said of Abraham Lincoln.
Journalists called Lincoln "an obscene ape."
Matthew Norman, undoubtedly, would have been one of them.
