JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: SCHOLAR STEPHEN COHEN LOOKS AT FIVE FOREIGN POLICY QUESTIONS RAISED BY TRUMP AND TAKES HIM VERY SERIOUSLY - BUT THERE IS AN IMPORTANT SIXTH TO BE ADDED

COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE BY STEPHEN COHEN IN RUSSIA INSIDER

This is a good piece.

I might add another important Trump foreign policy question.

He asked why Israel can't pay for its own defense.

That is a huge and very important question.

The attitudes reflected in Trump's questions are the reason Israel - and ipso facto Israel's powerful lobby in the US - do not like Trump.

The Neo-con views (eg. people like Victoria Nuland) which have dominated in Washington for a couple of decades reflect two essential desires. One, America should use its muscle everywhere and maintain dominance, including overthrowing governments not liked. Two, Israel remains at the center of American foreign policy concerns. The two beliefs are interrelated because so very many of the leading Neo-cons are American Jews with a keen interest in Israel.

These parallel Neo-con concerns have been highly destructive and are responsible for at least two million deaths, stretching from the invasion of Iraq to the continued efforts to destroy Syria.

The only candidate even likely to review this nightmarish system is Donald Trump. Bernie Sanders might have some inclination here but he has very little chance of winning.
