JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: TRYING PEOPLE FOR THEIR BELIEFS HOWEVER WRONG THEIR BELIEFS ARE IS NOT WHAT A FREE SOCIETY DOES - THE CASE OF DAVID IRVING - THE ABSURDITY OF "HOLOCAUST DENIAL"BEING TREATED AS A CRIME

COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE IN THE GUARDIAN

This had to be one of the more disgraceful trials in modern history.

The very idea of something called "Holocaust denial" being a crime smacks of the days of the Church prosecuting people for having the wrong beliefs.

We have many, many things in this world, facts, which yet many either deny or question.

People believe fluoride in water is dangerous. People believe America never landed on the moon. People believe Saddam actually had weapons of mass destruction. And people believe, many of them, that the official story of 9/11 is false.

Nothing could be more wrong than trying them as criminals.

You want to argue or debate with them, fine. You want to demonstrate with books or articles their mistaken belief, fine.

But trying them is stupid in the extreme.
