Unfortunately, this is precisely an area where almost no one
with power wants to learn anything.
Leaders like Obama, Cameron, Hollande, and Netanyahu only
repeat daily exactly the kinds of expressions, lies, and euphemisms that Orwell
wrote so forcefully against, and they do so with increased influence owing to
computer technology.
I love the words Orwell wrote about language, war, and
power, but I know none of the major figures whose names are in our news cares a
fig for them.
