Response to a comment saying ‘Great Britain and the United States have defeated freedom today – but they cannot defeat freedom forever:’

Oh, please.

They’ve been successful for years at it.

Britain, for example, has been deeply involved in America’s Neocon Wars, as in Syria and Yemen, and the government has done nothing but lie to its own people about what it is doing. British newspapers investigate nothing and dutifully make the right noises.

And they get away with it.

We live in dark times, and I think they are going to become darker still.

The jackboots and truncheons have been stored away. The 1984 methods are dated. They now resemble Halloween more than the modern exercise of power.

The United States just does what it wants now, anywhere.

Then it lies about it, incessantly, leaving nothing but confusion strewn in its path. Critics, what few there are, are left babbling and arguing among themselves, with few others listening.

And it is supported every step of the way by a compliant and always-supporting press, just as it is supported by willing helpers like Britain.

And in the end, no one in power actually cares what Joe Average thinks about any of it anyway.

The ordinary American citizen really counts for very little in the workings of the imperial machine.

And, truth be told, my observation is that most ordinary Americans couldn’t care less anyway what is done abroad, a reality that has long been helpful to government imperial efforts.

Just not interested.

So, the government really doesn’t have to be too concerned.

And it’s not.

That is the reality of American empire and its ruling establishment.

And loyal helpers like Britain wouldn’t dream of changing anything.

Apart from everything else, who wants to call down a Venezuela-style attack on their heads?
