This absurdity is what you get when someone like Trump tries to please and serve two groups for his re-election, groups with entirely different aims.

The outflow troops are for headlines addressing anti-war voters in America, whose numbers he needs to secure election in 2020, his base not being quite large enough.

The inflow troops are a response to Israel's incessant demands for keeping Syria hobbled, and keeping Israel happy keeps big campaign contributions flowing, the mother's milk of American politics.

Hobbling or destroying Syria for Israel's benefit was all the Syrian conflict was ever really about. All that horror and death and lying.

Perhaps the conflict represents the most extreme example of what "foreign policy" is in the imperial United States where elections depend close to entirely on money, gigantic amounts of it, for both parties.

The best government money can buy.
