THE SALE OF TORONTO'S ACE BAKERY TO AN INVESTMENT FIRM

POSTED RESPONSE TO A COLUMN IN THE TORONTO GLOBE AND MAIL

I am sorry to read this.

When I was living away from Toronto, in a place that had its own artisan bread maker, a visiting friend praised Ace Bread, and I was rather doubtful about a company with a name like that making great bread.

The name reminded me of the old Warner Brothers' cartoons with Acme kits.

But I was wrong. They not only make a fine baguette, one of my definitive tests of great bread, but they have several other wonderful products.

I just hope the investment company keeps its role to supplying capital and not baking ideas.
