COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE IN THE INDEPENDENT
I don't like the poster, but it is silly to call it
"disgusting."
Lucas’ words are silly, exaggerated, and inaccurate.
The poster is, of course, advertising, and never, never is
advertising - including much of the advertising found right here in the
newspaper, purely factual or accurate. Instead it tries to communicate an
attitude or suggestion succinctly.
Of course, a great deal of the "debate" over
Brexit was also silly, exaggerated, and inaccurate, starting with almost every
word from the Prime Minister's mouth.
Genuinely huge numbers of refugees over a short time period
are a legitimate concern anywhere. They are destabilizing and extremely
difficult to treat fairly.
I suggest going to the source on refugees, a method that
usually serves well in any matter of concern.
The source is, unambiguously, America's great tear through
the Middle East in the last 15 years. It has, with its armies and air forces or
with paid proxies, destroyed countless homes and businesses, killed maybe two
million, and rendered millions as refugees.
It has done nothing itself to alleviate the horrors it has
created, absolutely nothing, but it has left places like Europe and Turkey
struggling with the results.
Genuine immigration is an important matter for any advanced
country because their populations don't replace themselves any more, but what
we've seen recently is not healthy, ordinary, and needful immigration.
It is a deliberately-caused human catastrophe.
And there is not one decent statesman in Europe who has
dealt with it.
