JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: THE ROOTS OF THE UNBELIEVABLE CHAOS GOING ON IN JEREMY CORBYN'S BRITISH LABOUR PARTY

COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE BY STUART LITTLEWOOD IN INTIFADA-PALESTINE

Well, of course, in the wake of the Brexit fiasco at the hands of David Cameron, likely the most incompetent PM on record as well as a close chum of Israel's establishment, the Labour Party had a fair chance at taking power.

The Blairites in the Labour Party - again good chums with Israel - have seen to it that that won’t happen now, engineering another national disaster so the Party under Corbyn is in terrible shape for an election.

The Blairites have been attacking, often viciously, Jeremy Corbyn since his election with what was in fact a strong mandate to the leadership.

There was an ugly, long series of attacks over non-existent anti-Semitism, much resembling a McCarthyite witch hunt. The rumblings continue still. It has been truly ugly stuff, calling people names, blighting their careers, with no evidence of anything.

Now, they really scent blood.

Israel's government has hated Corbyn from day one for the simple reason that he is an independent-minded and thoroughly decent man. After all, in Israel it is typical to blame Western liberals and progressives for being anti-Semitic or even pro-terrorist., and you can read that in a hundred places.

And besides, Israel is comforted by the aggressive, interventionist types such as Hillary who want to remake the world by force. After all, Israel itself is just such a “remaking” in the Middle East, and it wants outside support to keep Israel dominant throughout the region. It does not like people who are unfriendly to war and aggression, as Corbyn very much is.

Israel's supporters in Britain have been in non-stop attack mode as a result, and that includes such "liberal" papers as The Guardian or Independent.

The really sad thing about all this is the way Israel's interests play such a big role in Britain's internal politics. It is inappropriate and it certainly is not democratic. Israel is a state with its own interests, and they should not be impinging on internal British affairs. And that is even more the case when Israel remains in defiance of all international law and conventions in its continued occupation and repression.

The Trump campaign in the U.S. is going to be hit with the same tactics and perhaps worse for exactly the same reasons. Forewarned is forearmed.
