COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE IN THE INDEPENDENT
There is little doubt that intelligent robots are destined
to be the next major stage in evolution.
And I suspect a major reason for us not finding signals
easily from other intelligent beings in space is that all the really advanced
societies in the universe are robotic.
They have no interest in us.
When it comes to the idea of robots killing off us “advanced
apes,” I think of the way we regard our predecessor species.
We certainly do some killing for various reasons, and we
engage in abuse, but to a considerable extent we are tolerant of their
flourishing.
But who knows, one way or the other. The only thing of which
I am sure in this matter is that we are indeed going to find out.
