JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: CANADA'S TRUDEAU SIGNS NEW ZEALAND PLEDGE ABOUT INTERNET CONTENT - WHILE HE IGNORES TERRIBLE REAL-LIFE VIOLENCE IN THE WORLD, THAT OF THE UNITED STATES AND SOME OF ITS ALLIES

John Chuckman

COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE IN CBC NEWS

“Trudeau set to sign New Zealand PM's pledge to tackle violent, extremist online content

“Pledge would be non binding”

How easy it is to sign a feeble pledge against violent hatreds on-line.

Makes you look like one of the good guys, but it is in truth an ineffectual gesture and one that ignores a violent situation that is infinitely worse.

Canada continues to do business with, and to support in many other ways, one of the world's most hateful and violent governments, that of Saudi Arabia.

And Canada very much continues to support the acts, and echo the very words, of a country that is at war or bombing or fomenting coups in a dozen places, the United States.

Truly, which is the most dangerous and hateful activity, terrible words on the Internet or terrible bloody deeds, day-in and day-out, against real live human beings?
