ABUSING HISTORY WITH FALSE ANALOGIES TO HITLER

POSTED RESPONSE TO A COLUMN BY THE DAILY TELEGRAPH'S DAVID BLAIR

Hitler?

Good God, that's not remembering history, it's abusing it.

Hitler's behavior was aggressive and murderous from his first moments of power. He had laid out his intentions in a book anyone could read.

Americans either never read it or didn't care. They waited for Hitler to daclare war.

Iran has been a victim, a victim of American secret plots and vicious attack by America's ally.

America put the hideous Shah into power in the first place by engineering a coup (with British assistance) against a democratic (but unliked) government.

So much for democracy in the Middle East.

The Shah's secret police, Savak, used to burn people alive with electricity and specialized in pulling out fingernails.

They tortured and killed thousands. Women and men.

Later the US actually shot an Iranian civilian airliner down with a ship-to-air missile, killing 300 civilians, never offering compensation or a proper apology.

The Iraq-Iran war was terribly bloody, involving Hussein's attack on Iran with complete American assistance and approval. A bloody shame.

Iran's losses in that horror were terrible for a state of its size, on the order of Britain's losses in WWII. Iraq even used poison gas in large quantities against them, without ever so much as a raised eyebrow from the U.S.

How would you feel as an Iranian after that decades-long toll of blood, having its chief propagator now menacing it next door?

There are no comparisons whatsoever with Hitler in this case, unless you are talking about American foreign policy.
