JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: THE GUARDIAN'S SPECIAL PLACE FOR STEVEN SPIELBERG (AKA THE P. T. BARNUM OF FILM)

COMMENT POSTED TO AN ARTICLE IN THE GUARDIAN

Alison Brie: ‘When Spielberg called it was the craziest half an hour of my life’

God, another large free ad for Steven Spielberg.

Every time he does a film, every time an old film is re-released, every time he gets his shoes shined, we read about it in The Guardian.

You know, he really is wealthy enough to buy his own publicity for his products.

I wouldn't mind if we were talking about a great director, a man making truly memorable and/or insightful films.

But we are not. We are talking about a man who has made a fortune literally on schlock - schlock like Close Encounters, schlock like Gremlins, schlock like Poltergeist, and on and on.

He is the P.T. Barnum of film.
