The Guardian's new
look: readers and rivals respond
Of course, tabloid means nothing on the Internet, but in the
world of newspapers in North America, it always used to connote down-market,
more pop-oriented journalism.
Some might suggest The Guardian had already moved
significantly in this direction without a change in sizing.
But with changing cost structures, many old-line papers have
gone that way for some savings in paper and handling.
One really expects, before too long, paper editions to
disappear altogether.
The photo of the paper edition actually looks much better on
the portion some call the masthead.
The Internet edition has black letters on light blue
background, about as unprepossessing a color combination as you could come up
with.
