“A Canadian journalist was physically attacked for doing his job. That should be huge news”

Response to another comment:

An atmosphere of unfairness and hate has settled down over much of the western world.

Trump sets a tremendously ugly example (as did Stephen Harper, although somewhat less frightening), but what is happening is not only about a few leaders.

Russia-phobia, Islamophobia, accusations hurled in every direction without evidence, fifteen years of wars through the Middle East which killed 2 million and caused millions more to become desperate refugees, desperate refugees being viewed as unwelcome intruders, the terrible horrors of Syria, election fraud, the just plain slaughter of 155 people in Gaza without a word raised by our government or press - these are just some of the things which go into the mix for what is becoming a very ugly tone in society.

And it is not only the Right, although they clearly are the main perpetrators. I read of unfairness and hate and irrational activities everywhere, much like an epidemic underway.

Look at our own government. It has ignored Saudi Arabia's horrors of the war in Yemen - killing many women and children - and ignored Saudi suppression of some of the Kingdom's residents, and it ignored a violent Crown Prince who effectively seized power using kidnappings and extortion and violence. It sold $15 billion worth of military equipment to it.

Then it goes and starts a diplomatic storm raging by commenting on one woman in Saudi Arabia. The comment doesn't even make any sense in view of the whole picture of Canada's "relationship" with that country.
