JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: THE CULTURE OF COMPLAINT IN AMERICAN POLITICS - NOISE FOR THE SAKE OF NOISE - STRUTTING AND POSING FOR THE SAKE OF STRUTTING AND POSING

“For the 1000th time: Criticizing Clinton is not support for Trump. Criticizing Trump is not support for Clinton. A person is capable of criticizing both. In fact, I think every person should.”

Yes, of course.

But all the noise about the two sides in America is just part of the fabric of the society.

It's what America does, and it has very little meaning.

A very clever man, Robert Hughes, wrote a book years ago called "The Culture of Complaint" about America, not so much its specific politics as its social patterns around politics and other matters. The tendency to argue for argument's sake and to take sides and make great poses as significant leaders in movements.

Indeed, one could argue that this tendency to meaningless argument in politics serves as a big game Americans have become addicted to, the reality being whether you support Democrats or Republicans, you get the same fundamental results: the Pentagon, the CIA, national plutocracy, lobbies, and imperial war abroad.

It all comes with only a few differences in rhetoric around social issues, and those differences are indeed rhetoric because there is no money left in imperial America for social issues, nor is there the least inclination in all ambitious politicians because they know where the path to power lies, and it ain't in social issues.
