Please, Boris Johnson, show the good sense to settle the ugly business Britain started with Iran.
It was a stupidly rash act for anyone in Theresa May’s government to listen to John Bolton, one of the sickest puppies we have and the man we know from a leak who instigated Britain’s hijacking an Iranian tanker near Gibraltar.
Iran has expressed its willingness to exchange tankers, but a member of your government has flat-footedly rejected that, making himself sound a pompous imperial ass with the silly concept that one hijacking is somehow more legal and proper than another.
What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, and no fair-minded person can blame Iran.
Of course, this new case may indeed have nothing at all to do with Britain’s piracy.
It may be legitimate policing action by Iran, involving a genuine infraction of the rules.
Iran is intent on showing the world that it can police the area, that foreign warships are not needed and pose only a danger, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
