JOHN CHUCKMAN COMMENT: WHY THERE'S LITTLE REASON TO GET EXCITED ABOUT MACRON'S DIPLOMATIC EFFORT WITH IRAN AND TRUMP - FACTS CAN'T CHANGE TRUMP'S HOSTILITY BECAUSE IT ISN'T BASED ON FACTS - WHAT SERVES HIS PERSONAL NEEDS WILL REMAIN AMERICAN "POLICY" - HE REALLY IS THAT MUCH OF A NARCISSIST

"Macron's diplomatic bet pays off as Trump strikes more measured tone on Iran"

I hope the author is right, but I rather doubt it.

We've seen Trump often temporarily swing this way or that on any number of matters.

The truth with Trump on Iran is that his hostility about Iran is entirely self-serving. I'm not sure he has any genuine feelings, or even real knowledge, about the country.

Some while back, he approached some American oligarchs for support when he felt he might be threatened in his office.

Their price was this mindless hostility towards a law-abiding country that Israel just hates for its size and influence in the region. Israel wants no competition or opposition in its region.

It hides that fact behind a patently false claim that Iran is a threat. That's also how we got ghastly appointments like Bolton and Pompeo. They are both men who admire, and are admired by, Netanyahu.

In the end, Trump is a perfect narcissist. What benefits him personally becomes American "policy."

He truly is no more complicated than that, and of course that makes him very dangerous.
