“Putin-Macron meeting heralds glorious summer after long winter of discontent”

On the whole, a perceptive and interesting piece.

I do believe Macron was trying to suggest some important changes in direction and emphasis, without just blurting them out.

Actually, Macron is the kind of person incapable of just blurting anything out. His statements tend to come in wordy, nebulous paragraphs, never in direct and forceful sentences.

As far as Macron's patronizing manner towards Putin a couple of times, well, that is just Macron. He is a patronizing and often arrogant man, period.

You can see that in many photos of his gestures. Just look at that fingering-pointing photo, accompanying the article, as he lectures Putin about demonstrations.

Truly laughable. The amateur lecturing the world-class statesman, and with gusto.

That's why I believe Macron's previous self-effacing, slap-on-the-back, good-old-buddy efforts with Trump failed badly.

Trump instinctively reads attitudes like Macron's, much the way a predator smells an emotion like fear in its prey. It's one of that colossal failure's only genuine talents.
