"We should cherish and defend it”
Correction, if I may, you should cherish and change it.It has done some terrific things, although they are not mainly associated with its news function.
Since Tony Blair's time and the murky events around the death of Dr. Kelly, BBC News (on the Internet) has been very perceptibly diminished. I recall clearly its changing tone.
In this, as in so many things, Tony Blair proved a lamentable national leader.
News at the BBC site really isn't worth looking at except to study the twists and turns of journalistic word games.
